Simple, Believing Love

Without hesitation or introduction, we listen to God as He speaks to Abraham about his wife, Sarah, who laughed and disbelieved that their God could make her have a child at ninety years of age. God said to Abraham, Why did Sarah laugh and say, Will I really have a child, now that I am old? Is anything too hard for the LORD? Genesis 18: 13 - 14a. What exactly are we being told? It is that if our faith were, but more simple, we would take God at His word and believe all that He says He can do. It is to believe that if He tells a woman, who is way past child-bearing age, that she can have a child, she will have a child, as God said.

If God, provided a great fish to swallow Jonah and Jonah was inside the fish three days and three nights, Jonah 1: 17b, then it was so.

Now listen to this carefully. If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you, Romans 8: 11 NKJV, then it is so.

Now here it is for us.

If our love were but more simple,
We would take Him at His Word;
And our lives would be all sunshine,
In the sweetness of our Lord.

If indeed we would take God at His Word, then our lives would be all sunshine in the Lord’s sweetness.

Even before I could protest and argue that no life can be all sunshine in this world of darkness and sin, I hear, these words grinding into me. “If your love were but more simple, you would take God at His Word and not gainsay what you hear. Simple, childlike faith, is what pleases God, nothing else.” O how I am cut down even before I begin. O how I am humbled and put in my measly, ignorant place. I am hushed and made to listen. I give to you as has been given to me, to teach me and grow me in wisdom and stature and in favour with God and others.

If our love - faith and trust – were but more simple, we would hear God speak in the many ways and forms He comes to us, and we would not just listen and heed, but we would experience His Word, live in us. And our lives would be all sunshine, In the sweetness of our Lord. Can a life be all sunshine in the sweetness of Jesus? Listen to this.

A team of miners has gone into a dark, dismal mine. However, each one is carrying on his person, a powerful light which spreads light wherever they go. In a place of pure, unadulterated darkness, the lives of all those men are all light, in the brilliance of their lights. You and I know this to be true, a fact; a proven, believable fact at that. One does not have to do research, go about asking questions and suchlike to know it is true.

The same is also so with Jesus, in the Spirit. As long as we have, in our person the Person of the Holy Ghost; as long as He is our Light; as long as He is our Illumination, then it matters not the darkness we must enter and face in life. Jesus is the Light, the Sunshine and in Him there is sweetness. What is the sweetness of Jesus, our Master, Lord and King?

We gladly carry on tomorrow.
