Surely not, Lord! Peter replied. I have never eaten anything impure or unclean. Acts 10: 14
We look with very curious eyes, ears and minds at the table of Peter, the servant-follower of King Jesus. What interesting and useful facts have been highlighted and displayed for us? We receive by faith.
Peter’s Table
Peter was sent to a heavenly table that was available to him. The Table of the Lord is always made available to all His servant-followers who, by faith, hear His voice. Our Heavenly Father never ever tells us of the food which He has provided for us and then says that it is not available, when we ask. Our experience is never ever like that of some eating places who advertise a certain food. One day, you go in and ask for that advertised food and you are told that it is not available for today, but by tomorrow or the day after, it will be available. Never is this the case, nor will it ever be the case with the Lord's food.
The Lord’s promised Table is always available.
Peter was sent to a heavenly table that was accessible to him. The Table of the Lord is always made accessible to every single servant-follower whose trust is in the Lord God. Now His table may be ripe and ready, but note it is also accessible to all. It is not the case where an eatery has its advertised food available to you, but because of where it is situated at the upstairs of a building, it is not accessible to you. Why is this so? Simply because you are in a wheelchair and there are no ramps, elevators or wheel-chair access, so that which you desire is inaccessible to you. Never is this the complaint, nor will it ever be the complaint of any servant of Jesus. Regardless of one’s condition or state, there is always ready access for all kinds of diners.
The Lord’s promised Table is always accessible.
Peter was sent to a heavenly table that was advantageous to him. The Table of the Lord is always made advantageous to those who come in faith, knowing and believing that it is food beneficial to them in all ways. Regardless of what God has put on the menu for you, know that it is for your good, never for your harm and never to make you disobey the Father. We know of times when we ourselves, family members, or even friends have gone out to dine and for a number of different reasons, have been struck ill with food poisoning or some other illness. Nothing of the like will ever happen with our Lord’s food to those who believe. On the contrary, the food of our Lord will strengthen, make well and keep one functioning nicely in our Heavenly Father’s Will.
The Lord’s promised Table is always advantageous.
Peter was sent to a heavenly table that was attainable to him. The Table of the Lord is always made attainable to those to whom He offers it. The whole meaning and understanding of the word attain, is fully given vision and understanding when we go to the Psalmist David and listen to what he says in Psalm 139: 6 KJV. Here he is giving God all praise and thanks for who He is, a God who knows him inside out; a God who sees him and knows his thoughts even before he utters a single word. When David thinks of his God and all these wonderful and marvellous things about Him, he cries out. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it. Is this not how many of us feel, when we are given the privilege of doing some work and we are taken around to view what it is like, how the work is done and the abundant fruit that’s being reaped? You look in awe and straightway, you are overcome with such overwhelming stupor, you confess that it is too wonderful for you. You explain that you cannot reach such standards, as they are too lofty and high for you. You are perfectly correct, for you on your own cannot ever attain unto anything of God. That is why He has given you the Gift of the Holy Spirit, to work in you all truth. Always will the Lord’s promised Helper be there for you and in you, as long as you believe and receive.
The Lord’s promised Table is always attainable.
Holy Jesus, Saviour, Risen and Conquering King, we give You unending praise and thanks for all that You are to us mortals. You are thoughtful, honest and always sincere in Your dealings with us sinners. Forgive us our daily trespasses. Forgive us that we so often are tempted to slight Your food, because it does not look right, smell right, feel right or sound right to us. Take away our diseased, pompous, self-righteous pride and humble us down low, please. We ask for You to give us our daily bread, but we want to dictate what it must or must not be. O gracious and forgiving Lord, may Your Holy Spirit possess us through and through that we may only know responses in Him. We accept Your Table Lord, as is. Amen!
