A very dear friend has sent me a WhatsApp and in it she shared some very good news about God saving her from a hard fall. She was all praise and thanks to God. When I read what she sent me, I too clearly saw God’s Hand, and His Hand only in saving her from so dread a fall. You’ll agree with me when I say that it indeed was great news for my friend. Now think seriously about it. Is this not your great news also, in terms of how Jesus has saved and redeemed you? Do you realize that He has saved you from the fall of damnation?
On this last day of the week, will you just give our Redeemer all praise and thanks for saving you from a worse fall? For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3: 16. Now that is fantastic news, for to perish is to fall straight down into the bottomless pit of everlasting hell – no returning.
The picture being used to bring us a battery of good news about our salvation and redemption, comes from Ruth 4: 7. Now in earlier times in Israel, for the redemption and transfer of property to become final, one party took off his sandal and gave it to the other. This was the method of legalizing transactions in Israel.
We are fixing our gaze on:-
The good news of salvation
The good news of transaction
The good news of legalization
The good news of Salvation is that salvation is for you, regardless of who you are and what you have or have not done. This is good news as long as you believe in the One who is saving and redeeming you. Check it carefully. Our text is talking of redemption being made final and in this alone, there is good news. How is this the case? It is because we are talking of something that has already been done and is just being made final. Jesus has already paid the price for saving us. He has already saved you from the fall that plummets one straight to hell. Rejoice this hour! You have been saved. Live in this good news.
The good news of Transaction is most intriguing. We receive some inside details, as we follow Boaz who saves Ruth from a most unfruitful, bitter and worrisome life. Now there was something legal about Boaz being given the opportunity to redeem Ruth. Understand clearly that although salvation or redemption was available to Ruth, only one person, by law, had the right to do this beautiful work of saving a life. Boaz did not have that right, but it was voluntarily and freely given over to him. Hey! That is good news, for Boaz loves Ruth, the foreigner, and does not think of himself or his estate, before her. Do you see your Saviour, and you, a sinner? Jesus, who is Love was not the first in line to save you from your sins. Law was first but Law was and still is unable to save the sinner, for sin has taken hold of the perfect letter of the Law. This transaction was willingly and legally given over to Jesus who was only too happy and willing to take you the sinner as His own. Jesus took you a sinner to save you. Rejoice and tell your good news.
The good news of Legalization is totally superb. Listen again to the chosen text. Now in earlier times in Israel, for the redemption and transfer of property to become final, one party took off his sandal and gave it to the other. This was the method of legalizing transactions in Israel. This simple act, which made and clearly showed the finalising of the salvation work, may seem very simple to us. To others it may even be thought of as primitive, but what the public is witnessing is a forever act. It seals a promise, forever binding. In fact, this simple action on the part of one of the parties involved, has made the whole salvation transaction, irrevocable, irreversible and unretractable.
Have you heard this salvation news? Do you believe what you have just heard? If you do, then you will know that no law can threaten you with loss of your salvation, by taking it back from you.
No law can reverse your salvation in Christ.
No law can retract your salvation in Christ.
No law can revoke your salvation in Christ.
