Remember Fathers

On this bright New Lord’s Day Sunday, we are mindful that it’s a special day in many parts of the world, where fathers are being celebrated. Indeed, today is Father’s Day. We give God thanks for fathers for many special reasons, the chief being that our life comes from his seed.

Recently, in speaking with a young lady who had baked cakes, cookies and other delicious treats for her Mother’s Day orders, I asked her about orders for Father’s day. Her response set me thinking and made me extremely curious and resolved to look deeply and with greater interest, into what was said. The young woman told me that people, as a rule, do not treat and celebrate Father’s Day as they do Mother’s Day. Her orders were a far cry from the orders she received for Mother’s Day.

The truth is that I really was surprised at that, because I thought our ways of thinking had changed over the years. Perhaps, what brought this surprise from me was this. Every single person who celebrated Mother’s Day has or had a father. True, the father may not be present, but I refuse to believe that all fathers have absented themselves in some form or fashion. No! I was seeing, as many of you see and know and are guilty of, that the tendency and strong tendency at that, is to make more fuss of Mother’s Day than Father’s Day. I understand the reasoning, the logic, the drive and the ‘give back’, in Mother’s Day celebrations being more elaborate, but I also understand that fathers matter just as much. Surprise a father or fathers today, whether it’s your biological father, spiritual father, God-father, surrogate father, uncle-daddy or whoever he may be.

On this Father’s Day Sunday, does your faith allow you to receive this request as from God our Father in Heaven? He is our Faithful and Loving Father to whom we all go, seeking all kinds of requests. By faith, will you hear our Father God, as He makes this simple but most powerful request of each one of us? Yes, the request is just what you read a few moments ago. Surprise a father today. No it’s not too late for you to still obey. Surprise a father today. In so doing, by faith, you will be answering Jesus’ request and obeying God’s command, as spoken by Jesus to a rich young man.

In our next sharing, we shall look at the meeting with Jesus and the young man, ready and willing to receive all that the Holy Spirit is waiting and willing to impart to all of us.

As we close our time together, today, will you join me in giving thanks to God for fathers?

For fathers we thank You, God of heaven and earth,
Without our fathers, we won’t have been given birth.

For fathers we praise You, Creator, Divine Three,
Without our fathers, there’d be no you or me.

For fathers we bless You, our Father in heaven,
Without our fathers, how could we know Your Love given?
Amen!

SURPRISE A FATHER TODAY
