Preservation in the Blood

We have been meditating on the blood, the three revealed acts of the blood, as shown in the salvation which God gave to His children while in Egypt. God’s children are burdensomely distressed and day and night are crying out for relief from being under the tyrannical leadership of Pharaoh. Indeed, God is His children’s God and Saviour and He has seen the misery of His people in Egypt and has heard them crying out because of their slave drivers. God has called Moses and told him that He is concerned about their suffering, so I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey. Exodus 3: 8a.
We have also seen that in God’s promise and fulfilment of that promise to rescue His children, that which I confessed I had never seen before, these were the three distinct acts in His promise. Having considered the first two, the Power at the Sight of Blood and the Promise at the Sight of Blood, we ready ourselves to receive from the third act of salvation. This is, the Preservation there is in the Blood.
When we think of the meaning of the word preservation, our minds think straightway of keeping something, in order to ensure it stays free from damage, decay, theft, destruction and suchlike. You and I preserve things to keep them alive and safe. God is the first Preserver and as Creator and LORD, did you know that preservation is His and has always been His to do? Think of Jesus and how He happily, and victoriously presents Himself to the Father, as the One Sufficient and Efficient Preserver. While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled. John 17: 12. Has not Jesus presented Himself fully as Preserver? Here, has our Lord not given the two acts of one who preserves? He is the Protector and Preserver of life. Can you vividly and clearly see the same in the blood on the frames of the doors? It is the sight of the blood, which not only protects the occupants in the house from the one who carries guaranteed death in his hands, but note this also. It is the blood that preserves them for all time. What do I mean?
Listen to the conclusion or tail end of our set text. He will not permit the destroyer to enter your houses and strike you down. This speaks of not just power in the blood but the authority there is in the blood. If you see this as all heaven’s works, all that is being managed, dictated, directed and carried out by heaven and heaven only, then you will accept that this is all of God who is Spirit. Who then is God? He is the One Preserver! He is LORD. We bow with deep reverence and holy awe before the One of whom Moses joyfully sings. See now that I myself am He! There is no god beside me. I put to death and I bring to life, I have wounded and I will heal, and no one can deliver out of my hand. Deuteronomy 32: 39.
I’m again held captive in this moment, as the Word of God catches me as in a net, to save me from myself – my utter arrogance, my unconfessed ignorance, my deceived self-righteousness and my deadly, poisonous pride – all of which He utterly detests. What then are we receiving? The LORD is both, at the same time, Destroyer and Preserver. Let’s listen to the full text again. When the LORD goes through the land to strike down the Egyptians, he will see the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe and will pass over that doorway, and he will not permit the destroyer to enter your houses and strike you down. Exodus 12: 23.
From the Scripture text, we can’t but agree that the mission of the LORD, as He goes through the entire land, is not to warn people, encourage them, chastise them or even bring some kind of punishment upon them, from which they can be healed afterwards. No! The mission of the LORD is final. He will destroy, by striking down people. But note, while striking down some, He is also preserving others. The Blood is the decider for the LORD. Blood brings preservation as it preserves the lives of all who are under the blood.
Tomorrow, we conclude with facts that will certainly keep us fixed and fitted by Jesus’ Blood.
