Power at the Sight of the Blood

As I have confessed, this is the very first time I have been made to see these Three – Power, Promise and Preservation - in this act of salvation.

Today, we are receiving much needed nourishment and strength from the Power, at the sight of blood. Like you, I have heard people talking about the sight of blood and the powerful effect it has on them. I have heard from close friends and family, how they get ill at the sight of blood and some get all queasy and weak. My sister, the nurse, has many stories to tell about the sight of blood, one of which is this. She told the story of how, as a green student, she and other new students, was taken to observe an operation in progress. She spoke of how a couple of students had to be taken out of the room, as they were all light-headed, queasy and sick. She even spoke of a young man fainting and dropping to the floor.

Here though, from our text, at the sight of blood, people are spared the death of the wrath of God. When the LORD goes through the land to strike down the Egyptians, he will see the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe and will pass over that doorway. There are a number of images which are being showcased before our physical sight, which give spiritual understanding to the Way and Will of Almighty, Sovereign God. I guess it’s no different from Jesus, God the Son, giving earthy, tangible, visible images, to instill heavenly truths to His hearers. One relevant example is how He uses the truth about the sheepfold and the door and how anyone who does not enter that sheepfold by the door is a thief and a robber. Then, after drawing their attention to what is actual, a reality to them, He then tells them plainly. I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes not, but for to steal and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. John 10: 9 – 10.

We are being brought to fix our mind’s eye of faith, to see and understand that blood is visible. It is because it is visible, the LORD will see the blood while on the go. Pause! Really stop and think, listen and understand. This is no hound-hunting excursion. This is no house-hunting expedition and this is certainly no human-hunting exploration. What I mean is that this is a mission where the objective is to destroy. It is in this wake of destruction that, if blood is seen, the destroyer will pass over in His path of ploughing through. In other words, this is not the place or time for questioning, wondering, asking, surmising or any such-like mind activity. The LORD has come to do a job of destroying the enemy and He will do so, unhindered by anyone.

This gives us the unmistakable image of the blood being very visible on the doorposts. This is no little amount of fading, old, stale blood. This is blood to be seen at a distance by the One on the move. He will see the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe and will pass over that doorway.

The Power, the sheer unarguable and unconquerable Power of the blood is undeniable. There truly is power in the sight of Jesus’ Blood, for when the Father sees His Son’s Blood on the Door, every single person who is within the House, will be saved.

Saviour Jesus, teach me how to abide in You at all times. Amen!
