One day After Ascension

It’s the day after Ascension Thursday, but our entire beings, all that we have and are, everything, is kept high and filled with awareness and expectation. The Divine Holy Spirit has been true to His Word and we have ascended to heights of listening and learning, which have left us hungry for more. We cannot deny that being infused with the wisdom of Jesus is not sure, convincing proof that Jesus is with us, alive and working.

When it was presented to us, how Jesus faced the status quo of His day, how He nullified their intentions and how He exposed them for what they were doing, is it any wonder that we are transfixed and transformed by Him? Does this saturation not lay you bare of all of you, and bring you face down to pay distinct and unabashed homage and reverence to the Lord? Holy Risen Jesus, who can stand against Your Wisdom?

Having been shown how Jesus exposed the Pharisees with His wisdom, we are being shown more. The second strategic step of the wisdom of Jesus, is to extract truth from them. Jesus does this most ingeniously, as He strips all their facades to the bone, the skeleton of it all. They have come with, the introductory phrase, Is it lawful, but Jesus shows them that they already know whether or not it is lawful, because they know the command of Moses. Always keep in mind that these are experts in the Law and of the Law of Moses. These Pharisees teach, advise, correct and encourage Jews, and others, to keep the Law of Moses to the letter. It will be quite foolhardy, for persons who teach the Law, having studied it and know it as the backs of their hands, to come before Jesus, ignorant about what it commands.

What did Moses command you? Jesus takes them, I say, to the very heart of the matter, which is that they already know, believe, teach, preach and live, the command of Moses, on the matter. He extracts from them, without them even recognizing His supreme wisdom in action, just how they are defeating their own purpose. This extraction bears resemblance, in its manner, to how its virtue is extracted from the sugarcane. The sugarcane is cut, taken to the factory and crushed or squeezed whole, no peeling or stripping of the canes. Look again at what is taking place. Jesus does not strip them of any of their ways. In His unfathomable wisdom, He simply crushes them, squeezing out their vileness, before the eyes and ears of all present.

Remember, we are learning more about the wisdom of Jesus through this one incident and encounter with these scholars. We are not dealing with what the particular law is about, for the wisdom of Jesus will deal with any law, they bring to Him, in like manner. This alone gives us perfect evidence that Jesus is Alive and with us, when we are given divine sense to see His wisdom in operation in us, through the Holy Spirit.

O Ascended Lord Jesus, we wait for tomorrow, to be taken even higher in You. Amen!
