******************************************

The cattle are lowing, the Baby awakes,
But little Lord Jesus no crying He makes,
I love Thee Lord Jesus, look down from the sky,
And stay by my side until morning is nigh.

**********************************************

In the second movement, Jesus is shown to us in heaven.

Jesus is looking down from the sky, where He is. The word, sky, in this setting, refers to heaven. The placing of Jesus is in heaven.

I love Thee Lord Jesus, look down from the sky,

For Jesus to be looking down from the sky, clearly shows that He is not with us in Human form, in the same way as He was.

In other words, the mere fact that He has to look down from the sky, where He now resides, in the higher region, is satisfying, convincible proof that there had to have been an ascending to heaven.  There must have been the movement from earth to heaven.

Let me remind you of our first personal move. It was one of conviction, where we believed that Jesus descended, from heaven, to come to be with us, looking like us. Now we go to our second move.

Our second personal move, is one of conviction and confession, where we accept and believe that Jesus ascended from earth, to return to His place, His home, from which He originally came. These are words of comfort which Jesus speaks to His dear disciples. Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.  John 14: 1 – 3. Hasn’t He told them that they are not to worry because He will be back for them, when He goes home to His Father? He will be back to take them to be with Him in His Father’s home.

I must confess that as I read and wrote this very familiar passage, it suddenly hit me that I am not one of the original disciples and I became very afraid. This had never happened before, but I truly froze for a while on that thought. Has any such thought ever occurred to you? Was Jesus meaning all people who call upon Him? Then we remember Him saying to one of His dying companions, as that thief on the cross next to Jesus, said to Him. Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom. Jesus answered him, Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise. Luke 23: 42b – 43. O yes, there is room and hope for all repentant sinners.

We also listen to Paul, Jesus’ servant apostle to the Gentiles, who states. I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body. Philippians 1: 23 - 24

Ascension reminds us most vividly and clearly, as it burns deeply in our hearts, without causing us damage or suffering, that Jesus did go up to heaven, from this earth below.

We can boldly make this statement, therefore. Jesus could have had no returning, if He did not have a leaving.

Jesus, we believe that You ascended to heaven,
By faith, convincing proofs You to us have given,
Your desire is Your Father’s truth to live out,
All who believe on You will know life without a doubt,
Thank You Jesus for returning to the Father,
Where those who believe in You will know life forever.
Amen!
