Mothers Remembered

On this Lord’s Day Sunday, in many parts of the world, mothers are recognized and celebrated in different and most special ways. On this day, many a mother is enthroned for a day, as it were and treated as a queen by children, godchildren, fathers, friends and neighbours even. I always find it extremely interesting, on each year, to see what new, innovative ways companies, business places, restaurants and the like come up with their own grand ideas for wining and dining mothers. It seems as though, with each new year, celebrations ascend to higher heights, as it were.
However, I’m not naïve enough to believe that all mothers are happy today as many are the sons and daughters who have brought grief upon grief, ascending grief to mothers. There are many I tell you, for whom this time is total misery, sadness and even regret for some. However, it is a time celebrated and we spend time at this point, to remember hurting mothers.
Many a mother is hurting today,
For their children who have gone far astray,
Those who have chosen a way not known
Living a path of disobedience sown,
Let’s pray today for all mothers who grieve,
That Father God will their burdens relieve.
Amen!
We also take time to remember proud and joyful mothers, whose children bring them peace and happiness.
We give God thanks for mothers rejoicing,
Whose children who are their daily blessing,
Children who are loving, kind and thoughtful,
Appreciative and very grateful,
For all mothers so blessed, we pray today,
That Father God will keep them in the Way.
Amen!
Today is also a special Sunday for many believers, as it is being celebrated as Ascension Sunday. Yes, we already celebrated Ascension Thursday, but as this is the first Lord’s Day after that Thursday, many, like me, celebrate today as Ascension Sunday.
During this week, we shall be looking at a well-known and well-loved children’s hymn, and how it has been used most creatively and beautifully to remind us more of Jesus’ Ascension. I have to confess that this is not a hymn one would normally choose to bring out Ascension facts, but our God is so wonderfully creative, He can use whatever He wants to teach whatever He wishes us to know. I guarantee that this will be a different week as a childhood hymn is brought to us with such fullness.
We continue to wish all mothers an ascending time. For those celebrating, we wish that their joys may ascend in the Lord. For those grieving over their children, who have gone far astray, children they have not heard from in weeks, months and even years, as they do not know where they are, we wish that their hope may ascend in the Lord.
