Miracle Of Birth By The Moving Of The Holy Spirit

When we began our introduction at the start of this week, we were told that the Miracle of Advent or the Miracle of Christmas, which had given miraculous birth to other miracles, was for us still. We were also assured that the hope being given us, in this time, was that it was not too late for anyone to be blessed and visited by one or all of the miracles of birth, bestowed upon ordinary people like you and me. We shared two miracles so far. One miracle was the Miracle of Birth After Fear. There, we looked at the shepherds who were afraid, but who had God’s Living Word conceived and birthed in them, so that all fears were gone and they were able to be powerful witnesses of King Jesus. In the other, there was the Miracle of Birth In Your Small Corner. Here, we saw, and were made confident in the fact that God can conceive and birth His Living Word in our small places, just where we are. We were reminded that the very birth of God’s own Son took place in Joseph’s small corner, his little place of Bethlehem.

Now we have come to the final Birth miracle, which is the Miracle of the Birth by the Moving of the Holy Spirit. I can hear many of you saying that the Holy Spirit has been in every miracle. True, very true indeed, for He was responsible for the Advent of Immanuel, the Birth of Jesus, God the Living Word, in human flesh and every Advent miracle which followed because of that one miracle.

Many of us, believers, speak at liberty and most freely about the Holy Spirit in our lives. We speak of Him guiding us, teaching us, speaking to us, correcting us and moving us to action. I now share with you about a man, who was not just moved by the Holy Spirit, but a man whom, moved by the Spirit, knew the miracle of birth of the Living Word in him. The man is Simeon. I have quoted some relevant verses of Scripture for you.

Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required, Simeon took him in his arms and praised God saying: Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you may now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all nations; a light for revelation to Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel. Luke 2: 27 - 32

What fascinates me here is that the Holy Spirit has been named twice before in the life of Simeon, as doing something. In Luke 2: 25b, we are told that, the Holy Spirit was on him. Simeon knew the Indwelling Holy Spirit. Is the Indwelling Holy Spirit on you? Luke 2: 26 tells us that, it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. Simeon knew the Revelation of Promise. Has the Holy Spirit revealed anything to you recently? Do you know God’s Revelation of Promise?

The question now is, where is this all taking us? Let’s look again at the words, “Moved by the Spirit.” The word moved, is the Pentecostal moving. It is not the moving, that comes by emotions, reasoning, intuition, or any human force.  It is all the Power of the Supernatural Spirit. When Simeon was moved, it was for the birthing of God’s already conceived Word in him. The Miracle of Birth By the Holy Spirit was about to take place.

Simeon, a devout and righteous man, living with the Indwelling Spirit, and  knowing the promise of the Holy Spirit, to receive a special blessing as it were, is now ‘moved’ by the Spirit to become a witness to the Christ. Do you see that? In becoming a witness, Simeon has been led by the Spirit to do something.

If indeed the Holy Spirit indwells you, and you have been moved by Him in the way He has chosen, is He asking you to do something? And if He is, what is He asking you to do?

Tomorrow, we conclude with our responses to the moving of the Holy Spirit, as we take careful note of Simeon.
