As we come to the conclusion of the Miracle of Birth by the Holy Spirit, and the conclusion of another week, I feel compelled to draw your attention to this fact about Simeon. He was not just a believer in God. He was a believer, whose life was given to God and who simply delighted in the Indwelling Holy Spirit. In addition, we must acknowledge that in this present miracle of birth, Simeon was given a word from God. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. Luke 2: 26. This man lived with a seed or word, conceived by the Holy Spirit. We know that he never aborted this seed, this word, because of any reason or reasons. Now, moved by the Spirit he is asked to do something. What exactly did the Holy Spirit move this servant of God to do? It is to go to the temple. Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. Luke 2: 27a
Here’s a question. Is not going to the temple courts an ordinary, natural practice for ordinary believers? Yet, because of the ‘moving’, of the Holy Spirit, this ordinary, is extraordinary and this natural, is supernatural. Do you know that even in your abiding life in the Spirit, He can move you to do ordinary, simple, natural things, so that in Him, they will be changed? As a believer, when you respond to the ‘moving’ of the Holy Spirit, to do the ordinary, He will make it extraordinary. Respond to Him with the natural and He will work the supernatural through it. Obey the Spirit and do the mundane and He will delight in doing miracle, in you and through you.
A further look at Simeon’s ordinary response of going to the temple courts coincided with the exact time the Child Jesus was brought to the temple. It was the distinct, working Hand of the Holy Spirit, who was the:-
Initiator of that move in Simeon.
Coordinator of the meeting of Simeon, Joseph, Mary and the Child Jesus.
Establisher of the Word conceived in Simeon, this promise given to him that before he died, he had to see the Lord’s Christ.
Do I hear you thinking and saying that that is God’s special promise for Simeon and not for you? Yes, the promise may be unique to Simeon, but the ICE of God, if you dare, is for you and all who, like Simeon, give their lives and live their lives unreservedly to God. Will you line up your life with Simeon? Remember, he was an ordinary human being as you are.
Here are three facts about him. Prayerfully and honestly look at Simeon, this servant of God, who was waiting for the consolation of Israel and where you are at present before God.
He was a righteous and devout person. He was a believer in God who had given his life to the Lord; the only way one can be righteous and devout. What does this do for you? It brings truth into your lap, as it were, telling you that Simeon is a human being just as you, so that you have no excuses about being human and not being able to be devout and righteous. As long as you give yourself to God, deny all of self and seek Him every moment, He will never brush or cast you aside. It is Father God who wants to make you righteous and devout. Do you see yourself as righteous and devout? Well that is the way the Lord wishes you to be.
He was consciously waiting for the consolation of Israel, the Advent of Jesus. Simeon was living on earth, living in a world that was vicious, evil, wicked and downright idolatrous, not unlike our world today. Nonetheless, he kept alive in him, a fact of Jesus. Listen to this. This man believed in the Advent of Jesus. He saw Jesus as the consolation of Israel, God’s chosen people. He saw the coming of Jesus as his own hope, in a less than perfect world. It is this hope that kept Simeon, a righteous and devout man, throughout his experiences. He lived his life in expectancy and great hope. Are you anxiously waiting on the return of Jesus?
He was indwelt by the Holy Spirit, so that he was a believer who was kept, schooled, counselled and fully alive by the Holy Spirit. What does this say and do to you and for you? What a reminder this brings to you and me!
It brings into clear focus that:-
God is pleased to give His Holy Spirit to us.
God does in fact give His Holy Spirit to human beings.
God’s Holy Spirit makes Himself known in humans.
As long as we know daily denial of self; as long as we ask the Holy Spirit to take our surrendered lives; as long as we walk the path of repentance; and as long as we believe the promises of God, then we too will know His miracle. The Miracle of Birth by the Moving of the Holy Spirit, of some already Spirit-conceived Living Word in us, must take place, for God is true to His Word.
