We have been promised that we will be taken slowly through the response of Aquila and Priscilla to the bold, enthusiastic, genuine and sincere messages or speaking of Apollos.
He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they invited him to their home and explained to him the way of God more adequately. Acts 18: 26
What have we been told about this life-risking couple, from our given Bible text? What banner are they bearing for us, under which we all can fall as couples in the Lord God?
Remember, we are not just speaking about a couple, a husband and wife team, but two, who have become one in God and who live and work unto God. I feel the urge and nudge to remind some of us of what was stated earlier this week about who we are in God. I quote the text and some of what was written.
"I will betroth you to me forever; I will betroth you in righteousness and justice, in love and compassion. I will betroth you in faithfulness, and you will acknowledge the LORD. Hosea 2: 19 – 20.
Yes, this is also for you and me, whom the Lord has saved through His Divine, Precious Blood. We know that we all have sinned. We know that each of us, without exception, falls short of the glory of God. Now Jesus, our Brother, our Kinsman-Redeemer, has not just bought and brought our salvation, but He has made us, His believing Church – individually and collectively – to be His bride.
Whether as a large or small body of believers, or whether it is just you and the Lord, you are a couple united in God, as Jesus was united as One with the Father."
Although our quote ends there, I have further been brought to this new text, which leaves us no doubt that we have been united as one with God.
Later I passed by, and when I looked at you and saw that you were old enough for love, I spread the corner of my garment over you and covered your naked body. I gave you my solemn oath and entered into a covenant with you, declares the Sovereign LORD, and you became mine. Ezekiel 16: 8
God, has given His words to Ezekiel, His servant-follower and prophet, to speak to the children of Israel. They were a most disobedient people, left to wallow in their lifelessness, when God not only rescued and redeemed them, but He united them as one with Him, in covenant.
By faith, as servant-followers of our Lord, aren’t you convinced, don’t you believe that God, in Jesus Christ, loves you immensely; so completely, utterly and thoroughly singular in Love that nothing, not even your sinfulness stopped Him, who is Love, from flowing freely, counting no cost, to save you?
By faith, trusting in God’s Word, do you believe and accept that all who die to self and self-will, all whom the Spirit has joined together as one to Jesus and in Jesus, as His bride, will know the united banner of Aquila and Priscilla?
One, in faith and love!
Tomorrow, we look at the love-works of this couple in Jesus and how they became a LEAF to Apollos.
