Jesus, The Present Healer

I begin by putting an experience before you. I was listening to a broadcast Church Service, where the preacher was speaking about Jesus and how He healed Peter’s mother-in-law. We were told that the miracle was so complete that Peter’s mother-in-law got up well - with no more fever – strong and able to continue her work of service to those who were in the house.
God’s shepherd went on to say that people from all over the town heard the great news of the healing miracle Jesus performed and without being invited or told that Jesus was there ready, waiting and able to heal them, the sick came. Jesus the Healer was at Peter’s house and that is all they wanted to know. The sick and infirm came in droves, whether they walked, were brought, or were carried to that house. We were told that Jesus healed them all. Not one was excluded, omitted, turned away or told to return on another day.
I clearly heard these words of the preacher. Jesus healed them all. Those words kept heavy on my mind and after the service I went and found the words. I had turned to Luke 4: 40 – 41, and read these words myself. At sunset, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sicknesses, and laying his hands on each one, he healed them. Moreover, demons came out of many people, shouting, You are the Son of God! But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew he was the Messiah.
Listening to these words and seeing this attitude of Jesus, this mind of Jesus, this work of Jesus, in such an unplanned and unexpected time, I began to wonder about the Jesus I claim to know. What I mean is this. There was Jesus, at the home of Simon, having gone there after being at the synagogue, doing His great works there. Yes indeed! Jesus has been healing sick folk, preaching to the poor and needy and teaching all who were hungry for the True and Living Word.
He arrives to find Simon Peter’s mother-in-law in bed, suffering from a high fever. Well, Jesus is right on the spot, on the scene, so they simply ask Him to help her, and He does help her. He heals her right there and then, no questions asked. Needless to say, I am held by lots of conscious-pricking thoughts. The scene is played over in my mind, and all I am seeing, all that I keep hearing myself repeating is the fact that Jesus is there. He is present. Jesus is present where the sick one is. No one has to go far to try and get Him. No one has to use a telephone or send an urgent message to tell Him about the very ill person. Jesus is there. Jesus is in the house with them all. Do you hear? Are you really hearing?
When I pray to Father God in Jesus’ Name, is Jesus there with me, with us? When I tell God about my loved one who is very ill, do I come to One who is present with us? When I pray, where or how do I see Jesus in relation to distance? Think of it like this. Your very good friend is a doctor and today you have been with your friend doing some field work. It’s been a long day, but you invite your friend to first come to your house and have a hot meal. As soon as you both arrive, you are greeted with the news that your wife has suddenly got ill and is very ill at that. You do not panic, you do not go looking for medications to administer or wondering who to call. You simply tell your friend, the doctor, who goes right into the room where your ill wife is and sorts her out.
Here is the point! You have a choice. You either panic, becoming overtaken by worry and anxiety, or you choose to speak with your friend, the doctor, who is present.
Is not Jesus the Healer your Friend and mine? Is He not present with us all the time?
Holy Spirit, will You please lead and guide me into this truth, that my Friend, Jesus the Healer is Present with me. Amen!
Not one was excluded, omitted, turned away or told to return on another day. However, this is the part that really had me, when I read, and laying his hands on each one, he healed them. I saw, even when Jesus just went to Simon’s house, not expecting to do a healing there, He had no problems in doing that healing. But more than that, much more than that, when people heard - as such news would spread like wildfire - as the sun began to set, all kinds of people, with all different kinds of sickness, you name it, they were there, outside Simon’s house to be healed.
All I know, all that is having my head reel, all that will not let me rest, is this fact; Jesus healed them all. No one was told by Him to return for his or her healing. Not one person who needed healing was told to wait and He would heal that person in His time, if they waited on Him. None was told that healing takes time and waiting is a discipline. Why am I saying these things? Why are you hearing something untoward in my voice?
I share this with you tomorrow.
