Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. Luke 16: 10.
These words of Jesus on honesty and dishonesty are without shades, most clear-cut and distinctly defined. As we listen to this talk on, matters of trust, may we be granted the honesty to make our own checklist. We all know this parable of the Unjust Steward, or Shrewd Manager, however you name it. You look at it and see dishonesty at its shrewdest and cleverest. You see it and make your own judgment, but look at it through differently guided eyes, as we zero in on matters of trust.
Matters Of Trust Do Not Depend On The Individuals
The verse begins with the word, whosoever. This suggests to us that trust is not confined to any particular race, or class. It does not only claim those in high positions. Trust can be found in any person, regardless of gender or age. It is very important to have the eyes, which see trust as not limited to a specific, select group.
This understanding therefore, includes you, for you are included in the meaning of whosoever.
But are you one to be trusted? What’s God showing you about yourself?
Matters Of Trust Do Not Depend On The Incidentals
The verse clearly states, whoever can be trusted with very little, Little, means small, tiny, the opposite of much. In other words, matters of trust do not rely on the amount, nor are they judged by quantity. These are all incidental to trust.
This understanding therefore, includes you, for there is something, whether little or plenty, into which you have been included and entrusted.
But are you one to be trusted? What’s God saying to you about yourself?
Matters Of Trust Do Not Depend On The Influential
In the verse, we saw ‘little’ as the opposite of much. Now we will look at ‘little’ in terms of greatness, what you might consider privilege against the ordinary, greatness against smallness, significance against the insignificant. Trust does not depend on the importance attached to something. It does not feed on the fact that one thing is more important than another and so one’s treatment or handling of a thing or person can be flexible where trust is concerned. We are not the ones to determine what is significant and what is not.
But are you one to be trusted? What’s God exposing to you about yourself?
Matters Of Trust Do Not Depend On The In-differentials.
The verse tells us that one’s actions with very little, will be one’s actions with much. So if one is dishonest with a little, one is sure to be dishonest with greater, and bigger things. Jesus speaks this truth that cancels all our beliefs and thinking about matters of trust. We certainly do not think as God thinks, for, if we are honest, we surely do not see trust in a light that makes it all black and white, so to speak. Do we ever think that it is impossible, in God’s eyes to be dishonest with little things, but honest in bigger things? And likewise, do we see it as impossible to be trusted in small matters and then be dishonest in bigger things? There is no switching of roles here. There is no sudden change. There is no room for one to be indifferent about a particular job or person and then be all caring and interested when it comes to another. Trust never entertains indifference, just because a thing or person is important, famous, considered or of some note or count, as compared with another.
But are you one to be trusted? What’s God revealing to you about yourself?
