In Love; In Christ

Without any ado, we are ushered into the words, of this secular love song that was very popular decades ago.

More than the greatest love the world has known,
This is the love I give to you alone,
More than the simple words I try to say,
I only live to love you more each day,
More than you'll ever know my arms long to hold you so,
My life will be in your keeping; waking, sleeping, laughing, weeping,
Longer than always is a long, long time,
But far beyond forever, you'll be mine,
I know I've never lived before and my heart is very sure,
No one else could love you more.

We are happy to receive it, for it is what our unfathomable Teacher is using to bring us into a most simple, yet most powerfully effective means of understanding. Previously, we were told that Jesus is born in us, if we love Him and keep His commands. As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. John 15: 9 – 11.

We also heard that to love Jesus, as He loves us, is to be in Him as He is in us. So what is Jesus’ love for us like? We go to the song and muse, ponder, think deeply as facts are being brought to us. Remember, we are in Christ Jesus, we abide in Him and remain in Him, when His Love is born in us and we are born in Him. Jesus is Love and when Love is in us, we are in Love. Now to the song.

More than the greatest love the world has known.

Remember, Jesus has said that His love is the greatest love.  Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. John 15: 13. It is a singular love, a personal love, a sacrificial love. Has Jesus not said of His sheep, not the world’s sheep, mind you, that He lays down His life for them? Think deeply, of what love this must be, that the Good Shepherd will die for sheep? I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. John 10: 11. We are in Jesus, when we know His Sacrificial Love is in us.

This is the love I give to you alone.

It is a very personal, and exclusive love indeed, for it is love exclusively given to only those who will accept the Lord, believing in Him and Him only as the Way, the Truth and the Life. Jesus makes it sufficiently clear that if we obey His commands, we remain in Him. His Love is given to only those who are obedient to Him. If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in his love. John 15: 10.  Be not deceived, nor doubtful about God’s impeccable and wonderful Love.

There is God’s Universal Love. This is given testimony and coverage in these universal words. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16.

There is God’s Personal Love. This is given testimony and openness, in these personal words of prayer, as Jesus prays to the Father, exclusively and specifically for His own, those who have left the world to follow Him. I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours. John 17: 9. Indeed! This is exclusive love in terms of being only for those who love Him and remain in Him. We are in Jesus, when we know His Personal Love is in us.

More than the simple words I try to say, I only live to love you more each day.

We know that God is the Word. There is music and mystery in these words. In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1: 1.  We also know this fact about God, the Word. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. John 1: 14a. The Lord is our Living Word and His spoken words to us are very powerful and life-fulfilling. However, we must never forget, or live in ignorance of the fact that the Word, made flesh, living among us, speaking words to us, is the Word that lives to love us more and more each day.

Here are some most dear, inspirational, encouraging and loving words for us, which touch the heart of love. Drink in this sweet word of love from 1 John 4: 15 – 16. If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.

The song speaks of only living to love you more each day. We believe and trust the Love of God as alive, potent and encouraging us to love Him more and more each day. This response of daily loving is only realized, because of our Lord’s ever-living and ever-giving Love. Hear the Psalmist, in Psalm 103: 17a. But from everlasting to everlasting the LORD’s love is with those who fear him. We are in Jesus, when we know His Everlasting Love is in us.

Isn’t our Leader and Guide, God the Holy Spirit, wonderful, fresh, new and exciting, with every passing hour?

Thank You Holy Spirit! Thank You for being with us. Keep with us Lord, keep with us. Amen!
