Identifying Where We Are

Having paused for a deep breath, we are asked this searching question. Am I a Rahab? Have I been called to be a Rahab? Have I had a saving grace encounter with our Lord’s servant or servants and have been bold in prayer to ask for God’s saving grace for me and for my family? With speed, I hasten to say this. Indeed, you may be a Rahab, with no husband or children, but you have a household, all of your clan, whom you wish to be saved. Note, there was no limit to Rahab’s asking.

Listen now to this word, as you have never heard it before.  If you are as a Rahab, then your house is you, your body and your life. You have hidden the Lord’s Word in your heart, just as Rahab hid the spies in her house. You have kept His Word, His Living Word, safe in your heart. The Lord’s Word has not found death through you. This is exactly like Rahab, who did not allow death to come to the servants of God. You have not abandoned the Lord’s Word and now, He has heard your plea, your prayer request, and has made a promise that your house, you, the heart which carries your family, will not be destroyed. Nevertheless, it is absolutely imperative that you must do as the Lord instructs.

Understand this. You are like all the people around you, in that you are a sinner. You carry the same face as those around you. You are no different from all those houses that are air-marked for destruction. Now, there are three things that you must do, to ensure that the Lord’s promise to you remains. You must have the mark of identification that makes you different from all others around you. The only way to ensure that you do not suffer the same fate as those without your house, is to have the Lord’s given identification. The Lord’s ID must be placed in the exact window, through which the Lord’s Living Word knew freedom.

You are fitted with many openings of escape. There are many doors of courage, strength, boldness and many others. Likewise, there are many windows of understanding, opportunity and such like. But the window, through which you gave freedom to the Lord’s specific Word, was the window of surrender. It is in this window and no other that the ID must hang. To use courage, fortitude, understanding, or even your faithfulness, would be to your damnation. Today, surrender is the window being identified. Hang the ID in the window called, surrender.

Finally, to ensure that your life is saved from the destruction that will befall strong Jericho, the scarlet cord must be used. Of course, there are many cords that can be used. There are cords of praise, worship, service and more. However, it is only through God’s Word, you have been given a scarlet cord. It is the colour that speaks of, and tells of, Dying Love. It is the love that loses its life, to gain it. It is the life that surrenders its life for another.  The truth is that Rahab put her own life on the line, as it were. She jeopardized her own life for those spies. She saw their lives, before she saw hers.

Is this not the Love of Jesus, who shed His Blood, all because of Love? The scarlet cord, the colour of selfless love, must be hung in the window or opening of surrender. When surrender is identified, then the colour of selfless action will be seen in the binding cords of Love.

Here is the telling word. The onus is not on God’s oath and sworn promise, but on you. You will be saved, though you are a sinner and deserving of the same destruction as everyone else. You will be spared, not because of any good deed that you have done, but you will be spared because of your ID. In your heart, in your life, let the colour of selfless love, dying love hang from the window of surrender, whether closed or open.

May the Good Lord give us wisdom and understanding to receive His Word and know surrender as never before known. May we be given the sense to know, like Rahab, that God is Omnipotent, Omnipresent and Omniscient and that what He plans to do, He will do.  May His Holy Spirit give us the urgency of Rahab that we may not think that God will not bring destruction and damage to our place.  May we believe and surrender our lives to His Word, for He is His Living Word.

Holy God, You Only are Holy, You Only are Just, You Only are Right.  Give us the urgency to know that the destruction of our Jericho, does not have to include us. Praise be to Thee, O Lord.  Amen!
