We are looking at Exodus 3: 13 - 15
God has revealed Himself to Moses and has given him a job to do. Moses is quite aware of his circumstances, his upbringing and how the Israelites, his own people felt about him. As far as the Hebrew children are concerned, he, Moses, is not fit to tell them anything, because he has been brought up by the other side, the side of the enemy Pharaoh.
You see, God has sent Moses to His people, the Hebrew slaves in Egypt, to comfort them and tell them that he, Moses was the one chosen to lead them out of bondage. But Moses has some grave concerns. Listen to what he says to God. Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, the God of your fathers has sent me to you and they ask me, What is His Name? Then what shall I tell them? Exodus 3: 13b
God responds by giving Moses a Name to give to the Israelites. I AM who I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites, I AM has sent me to you. Exodus 3: 14. He is also to say to them, The LORD, the God of your fathers – the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob - has sent me to you. This is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation. Exodus 3: 15.
From generation to generation is the covenant of God, that includes you. This word is for you also. May we all be given perfect hearing, please Lord. May Your Word take us up, for Your Word is Good. May You take us up, turn us around, and plant our feet on solid ground. May we hear the voice of Almighty God, by grace through faith.
My Name, says God, that I wish to be called by forever, is I AM. It is The Lord. Call me The Lord, for it reminds you always that I AM who I AM. We are being shown that God’s Name carries for you, all that you need . I AM Father, I AM Son, I AM Holy Spirit.
Let us now study the Word, AM, and humble ourselves to receive all that is being offered.
The Word I AM, is a Telling Word. It is a verb in its own right. I am, tells you about the person speaking. I am tall, I am cool, I am angry, all tell you something. The Lord, in His Name of I AM, is telling you about Himself. What does the Name of God, the I AM, tell you? It tells me that God is Present, that His Presence is right here and now. The Lord wants you to remember that He is a NOW God. He is not a God of the past and the future only. He is a very present God.
The Word I AM, is also a Doing Word. It goes with action. I am helping, I am healing, I am speaking and such like. In the very Name of the Lord, He is reminding you that He is a doing God. It is not that He was doing and He will be doing, but that He is, right now even, doing all that is necessary to help you. He is working. He is doing all the time. What does the Name of God, the I AM, tell you? It tells me that God is Producing, right here and now in my life. He is Present and Producing in your life also. The Lord never sleeps, He is actively producing His will in your life.
The Word I AM, is a Being Word. The word Am comes from the verb, to be. You need to see the difference between to tell or reveal; to do; and to be. As children, we all learnt this different verb, to be. I am; he is or she is; and you are, all stand on their own in a sentence. Look well!
Question: Are you a child of God?
Answer: I am.
Question: Are you a child of I AM?
Answer: I am.
I am, stands on its own as a sentence. Know that it is because I am that I can tell and do.
The Lord IS! He will be what He will be. What does the Name of God, the I AM, tell you? It tells me that God is a Person. He is real, alive, no fantasy or fairy tale imaginations. The Lord wants you to remember that He is a Person, a Person actively involved in your life.
Today why not take hold of this promise, this offering of God as He lets you know His Name? He is ;
The, I AM Father, who is Present with you.
The, I AM Son, who is Producing in you.
The, I AM Holy Ghost, who is Person in you.
May we know You as LORD, the I AM who Will Be what He Will Be. Amen!
