God's Conditions

We come with united mind and belief that our God will not make conditions that we can never meet. We know that He who created all things also created us humans. We believe that He knows how deeply and completely sin has marred and changed us, so that we could not be reconciled to Him, even by the Good and Holy Law. He knows that nothing good lives in us, since sin took hold of all our faculties, as our very nature is sin. It is precisely because He knows us perfectly, better than anyone else knows us and even better than we know ourselves, that He can make these conditions for us to obey and follow. He can, because He has given us the way by which we can follow Him.

So if you faithfully obey the commands I am giving you today – to love the LORD your God and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul – then I will send rain on your land in its season, both autumn and spring rains, so that you may gather in your grain, new wine and oil. Deuteronomy 11: 13 – 14

Yes, the children of God are living among a people who do not fear Jehovah. God knows this, for He has placed them there. Now listen to His commands to His children, regarding His conditional promise.

If you faithfully obey the commands I am giving you today…

God, who is All-Wise and All-Knowing is not fooled or tricked by His own creatures. He knows what our hearts and minds are like, thus He speaks clearly and straightforward, so as not to give us a legitimate loophole to escape His truth. Notice, the children are told, not just if they obey. That is too open-ended and too left to human interpretation of what obedience is. But when He adds the adverb, faithfully, there is no room, not just little room, but no room, I say, for them to misunderstand, tamper with or tweak the way in which God wants obedience to Him.

If you faithfully obey - Think about it. The describing word, faithfully, is known by the children of God, for that is all they know Jehovah to be to them. Faithful is etched in their psyche, I tell you. Listen to just a few undeniable and unarguable facts.

They know Him as the faithful God who delivered them from slavery to Pharaoh.

They know Him as the faithful Saviour, a God to His Word, who did not let one person, from within their homes fall victim to the deadly plagues, including the angel of death, which struck all Egypt.

They know Him as their faithful Father, who daily provided sufficient and satisfying manna for them in the wilderness.

They know Him as the faithful Friend and Companion who led them in the day by a pillar of cloud and in the night by a pillar of light.

They know Him as the faithful Warrior who fought for them all the way and gave them victory over formidable enemies.
