God Is above And beyond Us

I have been listening to a sermon by a nineteenth century, People’s Preacher, named C. H. Spurgeon and his sermon delivered on, God’s Thoughts. He was speaking from Isaiah 55: 8 – 9 KJV. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. As I listened to the Lord’s servant, it suddenly hit me forcibly, that the pronoun, ‘your’, is not just personal. In other words without ever being conscious of my thoughts, I was seeing that pronoun as meaning me.
There was I, confessing to our Heavenly Father that I acknowledge Him as Omniscient, and that He is not just my Creator, but not one thought, not one idea, not one way of mine can ever hope to match up to His. I was truly and pensively pondering how utterly inferior my thoughts are and how completely useless my ways are to His, when, as if I was slapped into reality, this took place. The very thoughts I was presently thinking, were smashed, as it were, and I heard this. You must realize that the pronoun, ‘your’ means every created being, not just you. It was then and there, when my eyes, ears, mind and senses were all stimulated and opened that I saw the word, ‘your’ as high and huge.
Where are you? Perhaps you already know and live this, but for all who are as I, I know that to have one’s mind, one’s ways, one’s thinking, one’s entire speaking and hearing changed, for the better I might add, is absolutely quickening. May I just offer you these three facts which were brought to me? These are for me, facts which have broken down all my prior thoughts and have built me up in such holy truth, that God becomes larger and larger in me, each and every time. I pray also that you too will be broken down in your own thoughts and ways, so that you will be built up strong and firm in the Lord’s own given thoughts, doing according to His ways.
May we all know in life-responding ways, the unarguable truth about the thoughts and ways of Almighty, Creator God. Amen!
The first fact which totally held me, was when I heard again that no human person’s thoughts are above our Lord’s. No matter how intelligent and how smart a person may be, no matter how learned and experienced one may be and no matter how one may stand as one of the highest, ranking humans on earth, his or her thoughts and ways are inferior to God.
Pause here! We look to all kinds of people, those we refer to as experts in their fields, yet we must never forget that God is the One and Only Omniscient One. God is Supreme!
The other fact which made me see my utter folly was this. I am in the midst of a predicament, or problem, about which I have no experience and about which I hardly have any knowledge. Whether this has to do with something secular or religious, matters not. I am in need of advice, of help. I listen to one person, who advises me one way. Then another comes along and gives me other advice, totally different. A third also advises and these are all taking me in various different directions. Every single advice-giving person is well-known as experienced and expert. I am all confused and do not know which advice to take. The onus then falls on me to choose. How can I choose wisely when I am ignorant about what should or should not be?
Pause here! Isn’t it a fact that a lot of us are like this? We ask for advice, but turn to our own ways and thoughts, to make the final decision. However, we must never forget that God is the Only One who knows it all and He is only too willing to tell us His mind, if we seek Him earnestly.
The next fact is most common also. God, in His wisdom, speaks to us and tells us things. What do we do? We listen and are most thankful for what He has told us. However, we take God’s truth, His words and think of them with our human minds, reasoning, interpretations and act upon them as we have thought. Our ways are all wrong, because they are according to human reasoning and not God.
Pause here! God never gave you, an imperfect being, His perfect words, for you to interpret them nor act upon them according to your thought and way. No! You are given it, that you and I may seek Him in thought, word and deed, to know perfect responses.
We shall follow some examples which have been made real to us.
