Read Judges 14: 1 - 9
Samson and his parents are on their way to Timnah. As they approach the vineyard in Timnah, Samson is attacked by a young lion that comes roaring towards him. He faces this sudden, ferocious attacker and the Spirit of the Lord comes upon him in such power that Samson, with his bare hands, tears the lion apart. Note, without some weapon, Samson would not stand a chance against that animal. But his hands are given supernatural power by the Holy Spirit, and this weapon-less man, in the power of the Holy Spirit, is able to tear apart this sudden, unexpected attacker. Samson tells no one about it, not even his parents.
Sometime later, Samson is making that same journey to Timnah and turns to the spot where the Lord had given him such supernatural strength in his arms and hands. All that is left is the carcass of that lion and there, in the carcass, is a swarm of bees and honey. He takes some of the honey and eats it as he goes along. When he re-joins his parents, he offers them some honey also, but he never tells them from where the honey comes. There are two pictures I want you to get from this. Honey for the traveller, gives strength to continue the journey. It is one of the natural energy-building foods. But the strength and energy engendered by the honey, cannot be compared with the energy and strength engendered by the Holy Spirit of God.
Please note that Samson is walking the same dangerous path, but this time the evidence of God’s Spirit with him comes with the natural way of regaining and giving strength. This man of supernatural strength is receiving natural strength. Note also that the honey is shared with others, his parents, who are making the same journey as he. He offers them honey and they too eat and know Energy And Strength Engendered.
Do they know the story behind the honey? Do they know that had it not been for human hands being strengthened, by the Holy Spirit, and made to become superhuman hands, there would be no honey for them?
You must see honey, as the natural way of getting strength for the journey, or of receiving a boost of energy to do one’s work. See honey as anything, anyway, any means, that is natural and engenders energy and strength. Samson is the one who is offering honey to others who are seeing him eating the same honey. Wisely, Samson does not divulge the secret of the honey. He does not divulge that the honey only came about in the place where the Power of the Holy Spirit was at work. The secret of the honey is that many do not know that the very natural ways, have only been made available through the supernatural. When, through the Holy Spirit’s Power, you have defeated some attacking, vicious, ferocious lion that suddenly springs at you to harm you, there is always the carcass left lying there. See the carcass of the lifeless, harmless, defeated frame that stays there.
You need to see this lion as a tongue, a vicious, attacking tongue that has come up against you. The words of the angry, hungry-for-blood tongue, have one mission and intention and it is to hurt and kill your faith and trust in the Lord God. It comes to shake your confidence in the grace of Almighty God. But the Lord God’s Holy Spirit has come upon you and has given you supernatural wisdom and words to rip that attacking word apart and kill it. You leave the dead, venom–less, harmless carcass of that word right there. Later, you will pass or meet that tongue again, and the very carcass of that word, the very skin of that word; its very skeleton, if you dare, will hold some natural good that you will use to know EASE for you and others.
From where does your honey come? From whence comes your EASE?
