Four-Part Promise of the Blood

We are waiting with bated breath and hearts and minds ready to receive our Lord’s life-giving food that we too may grow in wisdom and stature and in favour with God and others. Is this not exciting and thrilling just to be told that the promise of the blood on the top and sides of the door frame or door post, brings four interwoven and interlocking expectations of salvation truths?

O how I thank God for His Holy Spirit, our Teacher, who is able to teach and instill the Father’s wisdom, will and way in all hearts and minds, including mine. What about you?

Here is the full text from which we are feeding. When the LORD goes through the land to strike down the Egyptians, he will see the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe and will pass over that doorway, and he will not permit the destroyer to enter your houses and strike you down.

Part 1 - When the LORD goes through the land to strike down the Egyptians.

The LORD is coming down to Egypt, enemy territory, a place of undeniable haughtiness, unmitigated arrogance, unimaginable self-righteous and untamed indulgences, to do one thing and one thing only. He is coming to shed blood. This coming for His purpose, in several ways reminds us of what John the Baptist says of Jesus, when He comes. His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire. Matthew 3: 12.

The first part of this four-part promise then, is that blood will be shed, enemy blood and it will be done by Him, the LORD.

Part 2 – He will see the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe.

The LORD is going to see the blood on the frames of the doors. The promise is perfectly infallible. Notice carefully, the eyes of the Lord see clearly and without prejudice. We are reminded of what is told to us in Proverbs 15: 3. The eyes of the LORD are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good. His eyes are not ever defective, so He will see blood, on the righteous and obedient and see no blood on the wicked and disobedient. And as Job rightly says of the Lord, He views the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens. Job 28: 24.

The second part of this four-part promise then, is that blood will be seen by Him, the LORD.

Part 3 – He will pass over the doorway.

The LORD is not only going to see the blood on the frames of the doors, inside which are His people, and others perhaps, but He will pass over that house. This may seem a simple and obvious matter, not worth mentioning even, yet it has held me in tight grip. When the LORD told Moses to tell the Israelites to put blood on the three sides of the door, the top and on both sides of the doorframe, was this not like an arch, that totally give crystal clear view to all eyes? Doors were made for all heights and sizes to enter freely, so that doorframes were no different. Yes, the door is the place of entrance, made and designed for entrance into the house, yet the one who is miraculously able to bring death into that house, will pass over the blood-stained doorway. Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain that is, his body and since we have a great high priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Hebrews 10: 19 – 22

The third part of this four-part promise then, is that blood will be the sign of No Entry! Understood and obeyed by Him, the LORD.

Part 4 – He will not permit the destroyer to enter your houses and strike you down

The LORD promises that the destroyer will not be permitted to enter your doors and strike you down. As was noted earlier, doors were specifically crafted and designed for entering a house. That is true, therefore the only way to stop the destroyer from entering is to give strict instructions about the presence of the clearly marked with blood, doors. But here is the revelation, here is what truly and decisively mesmerised me. This is what I heard. Doorframes are there for people to enter. That is all I heard and it hit me hard, deep in the pit of my spiritual stomach, that the promise of God is this. No blood will be seen inside of the house that has blood on the outside door. What can I say! Even now I am hushed. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. 1 John 1: 7

The fourth part of this four-part promise then, is that blood will be passed over, never to be seen inside the house where the saved are, by Him, the LORD.

Does this not catapult us straight to the BLOOD of Jesus, without deviation, detour or turning to the right or the left? The promise, without trifle of the Blood, does four irrefutable facts.
