Fear Charmer

Today is not just another day, but today is the first day of February. It is also the day that lets us all know categorically and most definitely, that January 2024 is now dead and buried to every single person and can never be resurrected nor rebirthed again.
January is now but a memory. This has a bitter-sweet taste to many, and a very bitter and sour taste to others. But there are those for whom the ending of January and the beginning of February, hold a sweetness that remains, regardless of the circumstances.
Yes, I refer to Jesus. He is the One whom all who take at His Word, know all sunshine in His sweetness. This is not sweetness, as the world speaks of sweetness. This is not sweetness as the carnal mind explains sweetness. This is not sweetness as the human heart desires sweetness. No! This is sweetness that surpasses all human understanding. This is sweetness in the very Name of Jesus, as there is light in the very Name of Jesus. If you truly believe that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all, 1 John 1:5b, then you will know the same to be true of His Son, Jesus. This means that if we walk with Jesus, and have fellowship with Him, yet we walk in any kind of darkness whatsoever, we are liars. We do not practise the truth.
In like manner, there is no deviation whatever. If we bear the Name of Jesus and have intimacy with Him, yet our lives are bitter, regretful, angry, sour and putrid, then we are strangers to the truth. We are living deceived lives and the truth is not in us. Jesus is sweet and His Name is sweet.
At this point, I invite you to share a verse of one of Charles Wesley’s Great Standards – “O for a Thousand Tongues to sing my Great Redeemer’s Praise.”
Jesus! The name that charms our fears,
That bids our sorrows cease;
‘Tis music in the sinner’s ears,
“Tis life, and health, and peace.
In these four short lines we are told a life-full of sweetness which is unsurpassed. Will you listen to the sweetness of the Name of Jesus in His Work and Will and Way?
The Name of Jesus, charms our fears.
The first thing that hits me is that the Will of Jesus is not for anyone who is having sweet fellowship with Him, and whom He leads and guides, to be walking around, held in the dungeons and prisons of fear. Fear is darkness. Fear is of the evil one. Fear is not what our Great Redeemer died to give us. Fear is what He died to free us from. Only for those who take Him at His Word, will His Name charm our fears. Let me be open and share what went on in my mind as I was being taught this word.
You need to know that I have known this hymn from a young child growing up in Church. It was a favourite then and still is in our denomination. For all the decades I have sung this hymn, this is the first time that I have, made such an association. Jesus! The name that charms our fears. I began to recall pictures of snake charmers. I recall seeing a flautist, playing his music, and the deadly snake simply dancing to his tune. I don’t know what else transpired, but I do know that the picture showed a harmless snake; a deadly snake, unable to do its intended harm. Was this what I was being shown about the Name of Jesus and fears? If you would dare see fear as a deadly, venomous serpent, whose one and only intention is to harm you, then when you are before Jesus and He charms your fears, does not the same thing happen? Jesus renders your fears, harmless, powerless and totally impotent to do the harm it intended to do to you.
Indeed! The Name of Jesus is sweet to the believers who take Him at His Word, for just to have all your fears charmed by His Name, is Super Sweet.
