On this Lord’s Day Sunday, in places all over the world, fathers are being celebrated. It has dawned upon me that despite the growing negatives about fathers who abandon their children, the alarmingly worrisome statistics of fathers who are in court for lack of child support, or even in jail because of the same or even worse offenses, there can be a, Father’s Day.

Yes, today has been designated to fathers and we must be thankful that this is not just for show, or being unrealistic of facts and truth. We are celebrating fathers in our meditation today, for three major reasons, as we look to God, our Father in heaven.

Our first reason – We give honour to Creator God, for fathers. His plan and His way of using fathers to help procreate His world, continues, as He directs. Without fathers, alive or deceased, present or absent, we would not have been given birth, carnal birth.

Our second reason – We give thanks to God, for fathers. His way of using fathers in the lives of children cannot be defeated. True, many a father has messed up, but there are many more, as today shows, who are true, God-pleasing fathers to their children and other children as well.

Our third reason - We give prayers to God, for fathers. Prayer is our Heavenly Father’s pathway to Him. Prayer is unflawed and unfailing, so that we have the opportunity to pray for truant fathers that God Himself may bring about changes in their hearts, so that they will want to love and serve Him, their offspring and others.

To all you fathers, biological and spiritual, this prayer-poem is for every single one of you. Read and share.

Thank You for all fathers who emulate You,
Who show love and care in the things that they do,
Men who acknowledge the gift of parenthood,
Those whom their role as father have understood.

Thank You for their example which all can see,
For all their loyal, honest sincerity,
Men who’ve shouldered their responsibility,
So children don’t grow up in futility.

Thank you for those who don’t their children provoke,
Who the ways of love in their children evoke,
Fathers who go beyond their call of duty,
Spreading fatherly love in all its beauty.

Thank You for the fathers who show no concern,
For by prayer we ask, they have changed hearts and learn,
To listen, hear and heed, and Your ways obey,
Seeking repentance from their misguided way.

Thank You for them there can be intercession,
Pardon and forgiveness for each transgression,
For fathers are a blessing a gift to all,
Lord here us, as for truant fathers we call.

Thank you for fathers the good ones and the bad,
Those who bring us joy and those who make us sad,
Bless every father, wherever he may be,
Through them we want our heavenly Father to see.
Amen!

During this week we shall turn our attention to our Heavenly Father, where we will be daily reminded of some of His attributes, which should be in us, His sons and daughters.
