On this Lord’s Day Sunday, what a privilege is ours to be able to, not just have the first day of a new week, but to have the faculties and the Helper to bring to remembrances about the significance of every first day of the week.

Sunday, the first day of the week reminds us of the victory our Jesus won for us over sin, death, hell and the grave. On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. Luke 24: 1 – 3. He rose early on a Sunday morning so that, as we receive a rising on each Sunday, we too will rise with our Jesus, through the ever willing and waiting Holy Spirit. It is He who frees us from our graves of indecision, unbelief, stubbornness and pride.

Sunday, the first day of the week, confronts our present fears and assures us that Jesus, our Risen Lord, bids us His peace. On the evening of the first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ’Peace be with you!’ John 20: 19. Jesus is still our peace and even when our fears have us locked in somewhere, we are reminded that Jesus can enter the locked places where we are and grant us His calming peace. It is Jesus who brings us peace.

Sunday, the first Day of the week, encourages us and gives us pattern of the breaking of Bread, as Jesus instituted. On the first day of the week we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to the people and, because he intended to leave the next day, kept on talking until midnight. Acts 20: 7. We are assured that the breaking of bread in Christian fellowship, is what we ought to be doing, as we worship and listen to the spoken Word.

On this first day of the week, we receive the Lord’s peace and resurrection from our stale and mundane living, as we are offered His Living Word, broken and fed to all who desire His Newness. It is in this attitude of faith and unshakeable belief in Jesus, that we are ready and anxious to be fed this week’s learning.

Our source of learning comes from 1 Samuel 4: 1 - 11. Here is a bit of background information. This is a true experience of the children of God, the Israelites; a blessed and chosen people. They are the children who have seen the cursing of God on others, but they have boasted only of His blessings. Today however, in one act of the Almighty Hand of God, they know ceaseless cursing. There is cursing or woe, running over, as five banners are unfolded, one after the other. These banners are all BAD.

Do you truly know the Lord God?
