Asking For The Holy Spirit

We begin today, settled in heart and mind, without the slightest niggling doubt or unsettled, wavering belief that:-
There is a Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost.
He is God’s promised Gift to all believers
The promise has been fulfilled centuries ago so that we all, who believe, ought to be living, zealous, convincing testimonies, in our quickened bodies, of God’s Gift with us.
All who have doubts about His Gift of the Spirit, all who do not have the Spirit, all who do not evidence the fruit of the Spirit, may simply ask.
O yes indeed! Simply ask, for he or she who asks in faith, without doubting, will receive, no discussion on the matter. Hasn’t Jesus told you and me this and there is no manner of deceit in our Jesus? Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him! Luke 11: 11 - 13
Have you really listened to Jesus’ discourse here, His simple matter-of-fact reasoning? I am fully aware that like me, you may know the Scripture text by heart and that you are extremely familiar and knowledgeable about it, but have you really heard what Jesus has categorically stated? I don’t know about you, but I was made to know a personal conviction, a chilling and cutting conviction of righteousness, because Jesus is no longer here with us in the flesh, but His Living Word in and through His Living Holy Ghost, will continue to convict us sharply.
Jesus has told all who will hear, that God is not as earthly fathers are. They are all sinful, evil beings, yet they know how to give good gifts to their children who ask them. I am struck by the words, “good gifts”. Do good gifts include food – fish and eggs – that which responsible parents give to their children who ask?
The second thing is that the children are those who are old enough to ask. They are asking children. When they ask for these “good gifts”, food that is perhaps outside the daily routine, they are not given any camouflage, look alike, or even substitutionary food. Indeed not! It’s all genuine and true.
I ask you therefore, how much more will Father God give the Good Gift of the Holy Spirit to His children who ask Him? Is it that we do not have the Holy Spirit because we have not asked? And if we say that we have asked, yet we have not received, can it be due to the fact that our asking is flawed? Is it that in our asking, we do not really believe, thus we harbour doubts in our minds and hearts? Such a wavering, unsure asking person, should not think that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does. James 1: 7 - 8
Armed with all these facts, these truths, which we witness to by our lives and in our lives, we will spend the remainder of this week in a most different and arresting manner.
