A Timely Word From God

As promised, we are looking at a timely word about God and each of us. To usher us into this time of receiving, our minds are being informed by words of Sovereign God to His prophet, Habakkuk. This is a time when Habakkuk is bringing complaint upon complaint to God. In this complaint, the prophet has spoken to God about, what to him is God’s apparent untimeliness, in not coming down and doing something about the treachery in the land. The prophet acknowledges that God’s eyes are too pure to look upon evil and that He does not tolerate wrong. He is very concerned and not at all pleased that God is taking so long to come and do something about this worsening situation. Why then do you tolerate the treacherous? Why are you silent while the wicked swallow up those more righteous than themselves? Habakkuk 1: 13b.

This servant of God, who knows his God, is adamant that he will stand at his watch and wait to see what answer God will give to him about this most disastrous and unbearable situation. Says Habakkuk, I will stand at the watch and station myself on the ramparts; I will look to see what he will say to me, and what answer I am to give to this complaint. Habakkuk 2: 1. The Lord replies to His prophet and it is from the first part of His reply that we receive this timely Word, as we continue through this week.

It is a word of revelation to fix and fit us with the correct attitude, mind and spirit to keep trusting God in His timing, which often seems tardy, slow, uncooperative and totally late. May our Heavenly Father speak deep into the recesses of our hearts and minds that we may know His timing is always perfect.

Father, Sovereign Lord and God, save me from the sin of doubting Your timeliness and not knowing Your surpassing peace in depending and waiting on You. Amen!

God gives His servant the revelation of a word for the people, revelation which is to us also. Then He tells Him this about the revelation. Although this is a specific revelation, the end times, there are clear attributes about God which never change. These are facts about God which keep us trusting in Him, believing in Him and ever so confident in Him. These are facts which cement our faith in God; stake our trust in Him and steel our belief in His Living Word. Here is the word which God gives to Habakkuk.

For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay. Habakkuk 2: 3.

In the midst of all this we must be ever mindful that God does not reckon time as we do. Peter reminds us of this fact. But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 2 Peter 3: 8

The first thing presented to us is that God’s Word is timely. The revelation awaits an appointed time. Regardless of how it seems to us, God’s Word is never ever late or untimely. Does this not cement your faith in the Lord, knowing that He has everything covered?

The second thing presented to us is that God’s Word is trustworthy. It will not prove false. With God’s given word there is absolutely no need to even think of it being untrue as His Word is dependable. When God speaks, His Word proves itself. Does this not stake your trust in the Lord, knowing that He has everything under control?

The third thing presented to us is that God’s Word is sure. It will certainly come and will not delay. Does God lie? Does He make mistakes? Does He deceive? Then let the certainty of His Word inspire you to deeper faith and trust. Does this not steel your belief in the Lord, knowing that He has everything perfectly planned and working?

Let us put aside all doubts, fears, uncertainty and misgivings about God, and His timeliness in our lives. He is timely, trustworthy and sure in His ways.
