God's Stupendous Love

A most blessed and truly wonderful day to all mothers and others, who mother people, be they children or adults.

Indeed! Today is being celebrated in many parts of the world as Mother’s Day. The theme, the topic in most, if not in all places, where tributes and tokens are being lavished on mothers, is that of love. Let me bring you a few famous quotes by well-known men and women of our era, which speak of the love of a mother.

Edgar Allan Poe. In the heavens above, the angels, whispering to one another, can find among their terms of love, none so devotional as that of, ‘Mother’.

James Joyce. Whatever else is unsure in this stinking dunghill of a world a mother’s love is not.

Agatha Christie. A mother’s love for her child is like nothing else in the world. It knows no law, no pity, it dares all things and crushes down remorselessly all that stands in its path.

Erich Fromm. A mother’s love is peace. It need not be acquired, it need not be deserved.

Stevie Wonder. Mama was my greatest teacher, a teacher of compassion, love and fearlessness. If love is sweet as a flower, then my mother is that sweet flower of love.

Honored de Balzac. The heart of a mother is a deep abyss at the bottom of which you will always find forgiveness.

Indeed, the love of a mother is held high and has been given recognition, even in the Bible. Listen to the prophet Isaiah, in this most famous and well-used text.

Sing, O heavens! be joyful, O earth! And break out in singing, O mountains! For the LORD has comforted His people, and will have mercy on His afflicted. God will remember Zion. But Zion said, The LORD has forsaken me, and my Lord has forgotten me. Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they forget, yet I will not forget you. See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; your walls are continually before me. Isaiah 49: 13 – 16.

In paying tribute to mothers and their love, we lift our hearts and minds, our voices and hands higher to the Love of God. We summon all nature, all creation, to join us in manifold witness to the Stupendous Love of our Father in heaven.  His is Love beyond! His is Love that compels and constrains. The Love of God has a span that reaches beyond the farthest star: Praise God for His topless Love. The Love of God has a stretch that reaches to the lowest hell: Praise God for His bottomless Love. The Love of God is indivisible, indescribable, indisputable and inescapable.

Our Father in heaven, we give You deep praise and thanks for the love of desirous mothers. They are those who have been selfless in their love for their children, as You have given to them, whether of the flesh or of the Spirit. We give thanks that in their love, we have but a shadow of Your incomprehensible Love.
Holy Father, Your Love breaks every boundary we have of love, for Your Love stooped so piercingly low, as to give Your one and only Begotten Son, to die for our sins and rise again for our justification. How can we sinners truly laud, praise and magnify Your Hallowed Name? How can we repay such Love?
Dear Father, our Blessed Father, forgive us, sinful offenders and accept the single offering of each redeemed life. There is no other cleansing, pardoning and freeing Power than the Blood of Your dear Son, Jesus Christ, in whom You are well pleased.
My Father, I give myself away to You. All of me I lay at Your Hallowed feet. Your Love has recaptured me, and I am totally Yours forever. Amen!
