Our Amenable Father In Heaven

Without hesitation or apprehension we are bold to lift our God high, as the One Supreme, who is Approachable, so that all who come to Him in sincerity will find Him to be a true Friend, in time of trouble. Our God is Identifiable, for He has given us a Name, whereby we can call upon Him and He will answer. We rejoice and are ever so happy to announce that our God is an Available God. At any time, night or day, He is never too busy or too preoccupied to attend to us. There is no other God like our God who is affable to all.

Yes indeed, we have been shown these attributes of God in the prayer of a servant of God, when he was angry with God. Jonah could not abide by the compassionate nature of God to the people of Nineveh. But to Jonah this seemed very wrong, and he became angry. Jonah 4: 1. Nevertheless, the attributes continue, for today we are shown the amenability of God, our heavenly Father.

God is Amenable - I know that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love

I listen to Jonah, as he stubbornly and angrily sits under a shelter which he has made for himself, waiting to see what would happen to the city of Nineveh. God is Love and Love is not unmerciful. God is Forgiveness, for Love does not delight in destroying His people. God is most approachable and amenable, in that He is ready and quick to listen to the prayers and cries of His pardon-seeking people. He listens to them and accepts the fruit of repentance of His wicked people, who turn from their wickedness and seek His pardoning grace.

Anyone who truly knows Father, Sovereign God, as David knew Him, knows this attribute about Him. He is a forgiving God. David had committed some monstrously horrific sins against God and others, sins which deserved David’s instant death. But David listened to Nathan, God’s messenger and repented of his ghastly sins.  God told his repentant servant, through His servant, these words. The LORD has taken away your sin. You are not going to die. 2 Samuel 12: 13b.

As Jonah prays in anger, he is not remiss in mentioning to God this attribute of Love. Jonah knows the very amenable God, whom David so intimately knows. He knows the Sovereign Jehovah of whom David is bold to publish to the entire world and let all know these attributes about Him. The LORD is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and great in mercy, the LORD God is good to all, and His tender mercies are over all His works. Psalm 145: 8 – 9.  Is this not who our God and Heavenly Father is to us, His wicked, sinful children?

Yes, it is from the prayer of an angry servant of Father God that we are receiving and feeding sumptuously on this unmovable and unfading truth that there is forgiveness for all who admit sin and repent.

Whether you are in agreement or disagreement with God, do you declare and display this attribute about Him?

He is Amenable! Appreciate Him.
